You did not say specifically when in AUG 2006; however, the least expensive flight BAR NONE is $625 R/T. Because August is right around the corner the airfare rates tend to be higher, as opposed to if you were leaving 60 or more days from now.

Hi, we just flew round trip from San Francisco to Liberia for about $200 per person with taxes. I know this sounds crazy, but check travelocity, expedia and all of those type sites a couple times a day and something will probably pop up. We did and booked right then and are very happy with what we paid. We also booked about 3 weeks before we left. San Jose, Costa Rica is filled with ripoff artists. We met four people that had everything stolen from their locked car while getting lunch. Luckily they had their money with them. They all bought a change of clothes because the didn't want to spend their cash. Be careful in San Jose. I enjoyed Liberia and stayed in a cool place called El Punto www.elpuntohotel.com This was a little more expensive than the cat infested back packer places, but was well worth it.

August is low season, there are direct flights from Lax son Sjo on sundays by American Airlines or try www.taca.com August is a rainy month in costa rica and hotels are at their cheapest, visit the rainforest and volcanos especially the arenal it is currently active and at night is beautifull to see the lava flows Hope it helps any other questions I shall look again tomorrow

Yes www.taca.com Thats the Costa Rican or should I say Central American Airline. Its pretty good.
