How close is San Jose to Oakland by car?
I'm flying into Oakland this week. My ultimate destination is San Jose, but I cannot get a non-stop flight from here to there. Figuring I could go into Oakland and go the rest of the route via cab or shuttle. Thanks.

I wouldn't take a cab unless you're rolling in dough. It's about 40 miles.

depends on what part of san jose your going to! San Jose is a large city that covers a large area. Cab may cost you 50-75 plus; there is Caltrain; but your best bet would to rent a car. do you know anyone that could drive you; if you do take a cab, call and ask them to give you a price; than they have to stick with it; instead of using the meter if you ran the meter, it will cost you alot hope this helps

After picking up a rental car, it will take you 1 hour drive time. It's a straight shot on the freeway.

You can make public transit connections from Oakland airport to San Jose. Take the AirBART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) shuttle from the airport to the BART Coliseum station. Ride BART south to Fremont statin (end of the line). At Fremont BART , you can transfer directly to VTA (Valley Transit Authority) busses that run to San Jose. There are three express routes (120, 140, 180) from Fremont BART to San Jose. Route 180 goes all the way to the San Jose rail station near downtown. You can make connections to all over San Jose by bus or light rail from several points on the route. See the VTA website for schedules and maps. You can search the site by route number or area.
