Is it better to take a bus from san jose (costa rica) airport to quepos or to take a domestic flight?
My friend recommended that when I got into the county that I fly from san jose airport to quepos. She said that the bus ride is grueling because there is a mountain in the way. However, taking the bus is obviously the more economic option of the two and I would like to conserve my money if it isnt to big of a hassle. Also, I am going during the raining season... will there be any issues with road closures or transportation in general?

I would fly. It's only $56 one-way on Sansa. You can fly directly from SJO (a smaller terminal building just outside the main terminal) to Quepos in about 35 minutes. There are 8 flights daily. (See schedule below). The bus ride sucks, to put it frankly. It's a winding road up then down the mountain. If you get stuck behind a slow truck up (and even down) the mountain, it can be a slow ride. The humidity sucks. I don't think many buses don't have A/C. The one we took did not, but I've heard others say they had A/C. I totally agree with "Orange". FLY!!! Its a short fun flight and you won't spend all that time on a poorly maintained road. But if you fly you'll miss stopping to see the crocodiles that live under the Tarcoles bridge !

sorry to disagree with the others but i like the bus....i see so much more.....and for me the ride over the mountain makes it that much better and the buses i think are fairly comfortable...

When I made the same exact flight a year ago they had meals for purchase. I would always recommend eating your own food ahead of time and bringing a snack for the terminal and for the flight. Eating your own food always reduces the risk of feeling sick during the flight. Enjoy the sunshine! I'm so jealous...

Call and ask. If it is a direct flight the answer may very well be 'yes.' Actually you'd be better advised to stop at a Subway on the way to the airport. They are sure to provide liquid in flight.

Can I walk from San Jose Airport to the Santa Clara Caltrain Station? And if so, how long will it take?
I'd like to not take a bus or taxi. I have a flight that arrives at San Jose at 4:23 and I want to make the 4:44 train out of Santa Clara Caltrain station. I don't have to wait for the baggage claim since all I'll have is a carry-on.

I agree that you can't walk it in twenty minutes. Even if it were, barely possible, the 4:23 arrival time of your plane means that the plane is expected to touch down at that time. The plane will still have to taxi to the terminal, everyone will have to debark from the plane, you'll have to make your way out of the terminal, and then, you will find yourself on the wrong side of the airport. And this assumes the plane will arrive on time. It could take you twenty minutes or more from the touchdown to you even reaching the terminal exit. It might take you an additional twenty to thirty minutes to get off of the airport grounds, and another half hour to forty-five minutes to get to the Cal Train station. Check out if there is a free airport shuttle from SJC to the San Jose, Diridon Station. San Jose train station is just the next stop, South of the Santa Clara station. I KNOW that there is a free shuttle to the VTA light rail station. The light rail will take you right inside the San Jose CalTrain station. The good news is that, during commuter times, trains arrive and leave every fifteen minutes or so. So, if you miss the train, there will be another arriving and leaving soon after.

I want to book a round trip flight from New York to Los Angeles Airport and coming back I want to depart from San Jose airport to New York. Any tips on how to do this. I have tried the travel sites, but they usually don't have an option for airports you want to arrive at and depart at. And buying 2 one-way tickets seems to be more expensive. Any advice on the easiest way to do this.

For a multi-city search in your instance, you'd want to choose NYC-LAX for the first flight and SJC-NYC for the second.

We are looking for the fastest way to get there. I noticed we could take a flight from San Jose to Tambor. From Tambor is there a ferry or boat that could directly take us to Jaco or a nearby city? Thanks!

the bus takes you 3 hours and the trip you are talking about takes you about 4 hours ....if you are renting a car it takes you 2 hours and just take the aguacate road and is a piece of cake ....I hope you enjoy it and have lots of fun ....we just retired and we live in Herradura about 6 miles from Jaco and we love it

yes, it wont take you more than 1 hr tops to go trhu customs, even less since you are carrying bags. ask the people at taca counter for help and they will gladly direct you to the domestic station which is right next to the international terminal.

This is what I would do: Go online to www.travelocity.com On the left is the flight search menu. Type in the two airports, then check the box underneath that says "Compare Surrounding Airports" See which airport has the best rate, then if you have a couple of days on either side of your trip to be flexible, do this... Go back to the flight search. Type in the cheapest airport & the destination. Do not check the compare airports this time. Instead, click on +/- 1 to 3 days In the next choice, choose the number of days on either end of the trip that you could attend. After you hit search, a grid will pop up showing you which is the cheapest days to fly. Click on the price and it will give you the airline information. (You can then go straight to that airline if you want or just book through Travelocity) Hope this helps! Good luck with your search!

US air - could be a connection in Charlotte, NC totaling in flight time of 14hours and that includes time in the terminal. Continental from sfo - with a stop in Houston it could be 10 hours. The closest that SANSA will get you to Dominical is Quepos, and you can always find a flight to Quepos. You might check with the national tourism institute, or ICT, or you can check our website for tour operators. You should be able to find someone who will get you as close as possible to where you want to be.

I went with Mexicana last year to Monterrey connecting in Mexico City. I didn't get to do much planning before hand I just got the first flight available. This is due to the fact that my grandmother had just passed away. But I would say it was a pretty normal flight ...... even though Mexicana was delayed for several hours on my way to Mexico city and on my return trip back to San Jose. So I don't know about the airline but other than that you should be fine once you get on the plane. Just go to sleep, that's what I do. I'm a nervous flyer too.

But you should probably try flying out of SFO (San Francisco) also, San Jose Airport cannot accomodate large aircraft like a 747, and does not offer non-stop flights to LHR. Caltrain can get you down to San Jose but you'll have to make a quick trip on BART to get from SFO to the Caltrain station.

Generally in Costa Rica you would need about 2 or 3 weeks to realy see what the country has to offer... here is some things to consider. - If you are only interested in tourist locations you should try to fly into Libera Airport in Guanacaste, there you would be 1 or 2 hrs away from most of the beaches and about 2 and a half hours away from the Arenal Volcano (MUST SEE). nosara is a 30 minute flight away from either liberia or Tamarindo. If you decide to fly into San Jose, fine but you should consider flying to the beach and to the volcano (aprox$100 each flight) (go to www.natureair.com or www.flysansa.com. As for the rain forest, it is like an hour away from san jose and you can take a Day trip for about $100...

I was two weeks and I visited the following places: San José (The Capital) for one night. First of all we visited the Arenal Volcano Area/Rainforest, on the way to Arenal we stoped at La Paz Waterfall Gardens and another volcano name Poás, also you can do canopy, hanging bridges, Hiking and etc. Then we move to Guanacaste province, there we went Tamarindo Area that is three hours from Nosara. Near you can go to the following beaches: Grande Beach, Junquilla Beach, Junquillal Beach, Conchal Beach, etc. The beaches are amazing, beautiful and breathtaking. Then we flew to Tortuguero Area, there you can find amazing canals, beaches and rainforests. At the end another night in San José, with all this I have tell you will be surround by beautiful views of Costa Rica.

Looking up online I found $444 now, but kayak.com also shows that it was $408 few days ago. I also see that few agencies sell vacation packages, including air and 4 night hotel from SF to Costa Rica, for $499. This mans that air price should be much less than $400. That's the flight we lovingly refer to as the "nerd bird". I took it about a month ago to go to a conference in Palo Alto and it does live up to it's name (it's seemed to be about 80% tech industry people). It varies slightly depending on conditions but it comes in just under 3 and a half hours. As for Austin, it's a very cool and laid back city. You should have no problem finding something fun to do. If it's your first time I would definitely recommend grabbing some Famous Texas BBQ (The Salt Lick is my favorite), Checking out some live music (We are the live music capital of the world), and then heading down to 6th Street check out the local bar scene (It's kind of like Bourbon Street in New Orleans except a little more tame).

There are no non-stop flights from San Jose to Montreal. I looked online. There even isnt any from San Francisco International.

You can't always trust Wikipedia...Air Canada has a non-stop flight from San Francisco to Montreal. The flight to Montreal is flight number AC 760 and the flight back to San Francisco is AC 761. I have been on these flights a couple times. If you look at Air Canada's website, it says the SFO-YUL flight is 5 hours and 20 minutes. The actual flight time on that flight varies, but figure about five hours, give or take a few minutes. The website says the return YUL-SFO flight is 6 hours and 1 minute, but when I've done it, it was around 5 hours 30 minutes. Of course, your question was from San Jose, and there is no direct service between SJC and Montreal. If there were, your flight time would be pretty much the same as from SFO. According to the Great Circle Mapper, SFO-YUL is 2539 miles. SJC-YUL is 2526 miles. As far as travel time on a plane goes, it would virtually be the same from both airports (assuming, of course, that the same aircraft type was used, flying the same route and same speed). Now if you want to talk connecting flights, figure about seven to nine hours from San Jose to Montreal (including layover time) and about one to two hours longer than that on the way home. Can I find a cheap flight from San Jose to Florida during Christmas time ?
Does last minute flights help ? what if I just go to airport and see if there is any unsold seat or hope to some passengers don't show up ?

I think the flights may be more open on Christmas morning than any other day. Try Southwest to see if they have any cheaper flights. Trying to see if people don't show up for their flight is an option but I think the airlines have already overbooked the flights so the chances are slim. Hopefully you will get lucky.

search cheaptickets.com they really do have the best prices. Although it is getting kinda late to purchace airline tickets, and the prices go up every day

Ok, from San Jose to Honolulu gonna be bout 5 1/2 hours, give or take a bit but once you get on plane, most carriers gonna tell you within just a few minutes of when you gonna arrive, now come back gonna be little quicker, cause prevailing wind gonna be from east to west, so going ova you gonna fight that wind (you not gonna notice, cause airplane do alla work, ok?), but you get time back when you come back, cause wind be at you back, ok?
