its possible.....the large airports like Heathrow ( London) will have more options and therefore more choices. I have put a website that has most of the cheapest european airlines......for other websites for the first leg, look for things like expedia.com etc....to help
2 :
Depends when you go. In off-season (like now), specials can sometimes be cheaper than going via another airport using a 2 ticket strategy. In peak season (from late May-Sept this year), it quite often is cheaper to go via NYC or LON. Without knowing your travel dates, it's hard to give a definite answer, but you can try your dates using SJC to ROM at http://www.bookingbuddy.com Also try from SFO, OAK, and SMF if you could. Sometimes nearby airports are significantly cheaper. Also compare prices from NYC with http://www.euroflyusa.com Realize that fare seasons affect transatlantic airfare very much; if you could depart May 24, for example, it could be a few hundred $ less than departing just 1 day later (for example) due to peak-season pricing starting that day. And since you will be studying, check student and youth tickets with these: http://www.generationfly.com http://www.statravel.com http://www.travelcuts.com http://www.studentuniverse.com http://www.aesu.com If you go via London or another European city that has cheaper airfare from SJC area, then see http://www.whichbudget.com for low-cost flights from there to Italy.

Hi, if you are traveling from US to Rome, you can try a number of websites. The big ones are Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity. I used this website last year called www.globester.com. They seem to specialize in International wholesale fares. Try it out.

No one had better answer this. This is ridiculous...you aren't going to learn anything by posting your entire math worksheet online. LMAO I just noticed half of these questions say to refer to figures that AREN'T there and all of them say "You must show your work on the answer sheet". LAZY.

Where should I visit in Costa Rica

Where should I visit in Costa Rica?
I want to spend about 3 days there with one of my friends who wanted to go somewhere close to the US that was safe, not too expensive, and friends to tourists. I know there are flights into San Jose and Liberia from the US, but I don't know where to stay. I am not into nightlife at all and want to do things like white water rafting, hiking, tours of volcanoes or rainforest, zip lines, or water activities. I was thinking somewhere near the beech would be good, but I'm clueless as to where. Any ideas?

3 days ain't enough... but you should go to la fortuna near the arenal volcano
2 :
three days isn't a lot- i agree with the other post. The reason is because nothing is near each other. Every place worth staying or seeing is far from the next one.... so you have to factor in travel time. My suggestion is Manuel Antonio Beach. You can hike in the jungle - see lots of animals and have water activiites. If you want to add a volcano you will need more days just to get there. My suggestion is Volcan Poas...it's better than the others.
3 :
I definitely agree with these 3 places! Arenal Volcano Manuel Antonio Beach Volcan Poas

how many airplanes flies out of SJC on the red eye on the night before thanksgiving day

how many airplanes flies out of SJC on the red eye on the night before thanksgiving day?
Im making a reservation for a flight that takes off from San Jose as 6:10 in the morning on thanksgiving day. What are the chances of there being a huge security checkpoint waiting line at such an unorthodox hour if I were to show up just an hour before the flight?

don't push your luck..Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest if not the busiest of the year..

The night before Thanksgiving day is considered as the busiest at all airports. Since your flight is 6:10am, you may miss most of the hell. I would suggest to give yourself an extra 30 minutes.
3 :
You won't be getting on the plane if you show up only one hour early for the busiest travel day of the year. You better be there long before the counter agents show up, to get a good place in line.

Can you choose which airport you will land at, your flight back from air force tech school?
My boyfriend is comming home this Friday from Lackland AFB and I was wondering if he could choose which airport he lands at. When he left for boot camp he flew out of San Jose airport and I was wondering if he had to return to the same airport?

He can choose his airport. I assume he's picking the one closest to him home that national carriers fly in and out of.
2 :
If he's taking leave after Tech School then he's flying home on his own dime. He can pick any airport he likes since he's paying for it.
3 :
The Air Force just gives him permission to go on leave. How he gets where he is going is up to him.
4 :
He's paying for the ticket, so I don't know why he couldn't fly into another airport.

Southwest canceled my flight tomorrow, please give me advice

Southwest canceled my flight tomorrow, please give me advice.?
My flight from Minneapolis to San Francisco tomorrow morning got canceled. Southwest offered alternative flights for no cost. I tried to re-book it to San Jose instead but they wouldn't accommodate this because the destination city is different from what I reserved. Do you think they should have given it to me? I actually live in San Jose but the reason I booked it to SF is because the price was less (about $100 less). What do you guys think? Yes it was the 7 am flight, how did you know? Well I ended up booking a later flight to SFO, I was able to talk to a rep who agreed to book me a flight to SJ without any additional costs, but she warned me that the layover in Denver would be risky because Denver was expecting 6 inches of snow. Thanks for everyone's help!

who told you the flight was canceled? they should have already BOOKED you ion the san jose flight.. did you talk with a southwest agent? maybe that's why you couldn't book the flight because it was already booked for you? did you check your flight Integra?
2 :
No.......you booked San Francisco........that's where they need to take you.........airlines won't cut any slack..........that's a fact.........
3 :
was it the 7AM flight?? This is their rights, but you should have gone to the airport and talk to a supervisor, and if space are available, they could put you on the San Jose flight. If you talked to someone on the phone, located in Dallas, well....just an operator...!
4 :
You bought a ticket for MSP-SFO. Why would you think you would be entitled to be rebooked on MSP-SJC? If they actually did it for you, that's a nice courtesy, but I wouldn't expect it in the future.

do u know if i need a passport to go to hawaii? what kind of documents so i need? where do i find the cheapest flights from san jose, calif? thanx

1 :
No I dont think so
2 :
You DO realize that Hawaii is one of The United States, right? It is our 50th State. You wouldn't need a passport to go to Reno from California, would you? Or are they no longer teaching geography and American History where you went to school? As to the cost of a flight, it's more expensive to fly in the Summer than in the Winter.
3 :
No you do not need a passport to travel to Hawaii. The only document you would need is a picture ID when checking in at the arport to get on the planes (both in cali and hawaii). If you are planning on driving in Hawaii (yes, we have cars, motorcycles and moped and actual paved roads in Hawaii) you would need to bring your driver's license. Search online at any of the individual airlines sites or use sites like travelocity and orbitz or expedia.
4 :
That depends on where you are traveling from. If you are already in the USA, you do not need a passport. Hawaii is the 50th state. If you are traveling from outside the US and are not American, you'll need a passport to enter the country.
5 :
If You are a U.S. citizen or resident alien, no you don't need a passport. Hawaii is The 50th state in the union. You just need legal ID to get through Airport security. If you are from a foreign country, then yes.
6 :
You do not need a passport to travel anywhere in the 50 states or its 'territories'. However in less then about 3 years or so you will have to go through full body cavity searches, have your shoes melted and reformed for carbonite detonation samples, have your hair processed at an FBI airport lab and have your genitals grabbed and probed by 20 different high ranking officials that you never new existed before you get through the luggage check station. We are talking back room beatings and skin graphs before the year 2020. And in my opinion check priceline. Any price you can find there United air will match, part of their deal.
7 :
hawaii is in the united states u dont need a passport. and i think the cheepest flight is southweast
8 :
You do not need a passport if you are a US citizen. You only need your driver's license or a US Government ID showing your picture with your address on it. Hawaii is a state of the US, even though it is in the Pacific. Go on www.expedia.com for flights from California.

No such thing as a cheap flight anymore. Even with oil prices coming down you haven''t seen a big drop in ticket cost. Eva airlines I found had some cheap flights check them out.
2 :
Typically the cheapest fares to Asia are usually through LA or San Francisco. China Airlines (Taiwan) has flights to BKK through Taipei from LAX for about $995 total on certain dates in January, which is about as cheap as you can find these days. http://www.china-airlines.com/en/index.htm Asiana is also offering a fare for less than $1,000 to BKK from LAX in January. http://us.flyasiana.com/Global/US/en/index
3 :
Hey I'm not a booking agent and it may be hard to make connections so you have to figure it out yourself but (ANA has a cheaper fare (about -$50US) from JFK to BKK but I don't do ANA) You hsve to fly middle of the week and you have to fiddle with the dates because they don't have the cheap code for all dates but I checked 1/7/2009 to 2/11/2009 and heres the price. $445 R/T on LACSA from SJO to JFK http://lanperu.us/airlines/lacsa.shtml You'll probably be on a TACA airplane but you have to book through the place above or Cheapo tickets or Expedia or one of those. The one way price is higher? I don't know why $1322 R/T Korean Air (JFK to BKK) http://www.koreanair.com/ I checked Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami (second best american $208 to Miami and Delta to BKK $1880), Minneapolis, Detroit, Washington D.C., Houston, New Orleans, Mexico City and flying into Singapore or KL. This is the best pricewise
4 :
www.cheaptickets.com is pretty much always the cheapest if your schedule is flexible. SFO or LAX is usually great to fly out of.

Is it safe to drive AT NIGHT from san jose' [costa rica] to lafortuna

Is it safe to drive AT NIGHT from san jose' [costa rica] to lafortuna?
I just realized my flight coming in, we'll arrive @8:35pm, & probably around 9pm til we get into our rental car to drive from San Jose' airport to Lafortuna. We've never been to Costa RIca before and really do not want to risk being hijacked on the highway somehow along the way to lafortuna. Also, are the roads to lafortuna really like a highway? OR are they jungly- type dirt roads with wild plants everywhere? I am getting scared. Should I order brass knuckes and mace on Ebay b4 our trip? I'm just concerned about the nightly drive upon arrival, that's it.

If you have never been to CR before, you are taking a huge gamble driving to La Fortuna late night. I would bet you will get lost!!! even with a GPS. That area gets very rural, and is very dark at night even with a full moon. I have driven that road many of times, and I still hate driving at night. It is not the hijacking etc, but the mountain and general road conditions. No you do not need brass knuckes or mace. Arrive, spend the night in a hotel, rent your car and cruise to La Fortuna the next day. And on the way enjoy the awesome landscape, and the pretty cool towns. Take your time and not be paranoid about being hijacked and you will enjoy your trip a 100 times more...
2 :
Your biggest worry driving at night is crashing head on with a speeding truck or falling off a cliff. There are no street lamps so it's pitch black on the roads at night. It's dangerous for people familiar with the roads, but for somebody new to the road, it's EXTREMELY dangerous. There are some nasty curves along the way. I've been to CR about 40 times (family) and I never drive outside of the city at night. Too risky. There is virtually no chance of being hijacked, but there is of getting into an accident or getting lost in the middle of nowhere.

When is the best time to get the lowest air fair prior to the flight date

When is the best time to get the lowest air fair prior to the flight date?
I need to fly from san jose, CA to mexico city in Feb 2008. What is the best time to buy lowest priced tickets? Is there any trend, e.g. the price possibly dropping, then may start rising at some point? Is there any strategy for the people who fly?

On international flights there is usually not such a thing like and advance purchase in order to get a good fare, it all depends on the dates (if you are flying on busy season). Still, sometimes airlines make "sales" in certain markets, so my advice would be to start monitoring the prices on the dates you want to fly on the Internet. If you are flexible with your traveling dates it will be easier to get a better fare, most webs for airlines now have a feature that allows you to search based on price. Monitor for a week or two the prices on all the airlines that you can, and I would suggest not to wait more than a month before your flight because you could end up not finding space when you want it. A good way to know if the flight is full is to book the seats on the Internet.. continue clicking until they let you assign seats (usually that is before you have to type you credit card number) . When the seat map pops up you will be able to see how full it is.
2 :
Generally, you *do* have to book in advance to get the best fares--typically 14 days or more in advance. Generally, 90 to 21 days advance is best--less than 21 days before departure and you will be inside the advance purchase window for cheapest fares; more than 90 and you might miss a good sale. You can see exactly what you asked for here: http://www.farecompare.com/search/year.html?destination=Mexico%20City,%20MX%20(MEX)&p=1&s=r&t=r&departure=San%20Jose,%20CA%20(SJC)&type=homepage Can also sign up there for fare alerts to your email, can click to check seat availability, click to book, and see on a calendar how far in advance you need to book for the cheapest fares.

Travel to San Jose Airport Cheap method? from Santa Cruz. (emergency!)?
Hello, My friend needs to take a ride to San Jose Airport, but she does not have a car (neither do I). We live in Santa Cruz. It's now 7:40pm, Tuesday, 12/23. Her flight is 6:30, Wednesday, 12/24. So she needs to find a vanpool or some travel method that will take her to the airport? is there any suggestion that you can make? Any good website to use? I Thank you in advance. Somebody told her that San Jose airport opens at 5:00am? That's why she's hesitating from using Highway 17. I am very skeptical of this. I can't seem to find this information on the web. Is it true that she can't spend the night at the airport? prompt reply appreciated.

Here's an option that will take you on public transportation and you'll need to spend overnight at the airport; it took some internet research, but here it goes: Take the Route 17 - Highway Express; the bus leaves the Santa Cruz Metro Center at 9:30 pm and arrives at Diridon Station at 10:15 pm. ($4) http://www.scmtd.com/routes/rt17.html Then take the Caltrain that leaves the San Jose Station at 10:30 pm and get off at the Santa Clara Station at 10:35 pm. Transfer to the VTA bus 10 heading toward the Airport, leaving at 10:48 pm and arriving at 10:59 pm. (Last 2 costs $2.25). This is cheap...but complicated and you'll need to spend the night at the airport.

I'd say, Just how soon you know for certain that you'll be going. The earlier you book your flight the cheaper your tickets are. That will obviously mean a lot of money saved in our already poor economy
2 :
As soon as you are going for sure start looking at flights and prices online. Prices can change day to day (sometimes they go up or down a couple hundred dollars) If you are really money conscience get in the habit of checking prices everyday and once the price gets lower than it has been it is time to book it!!! the closer you get to the travel date typically the more expensive it will be. check websites like: www.travelocity.com expedia.com hotwire.com orbitz.com those website check all the major carriers so it easy to compare!
3 :
No less than 21 days out to get the best price. After that they go up a lot.

Not knowing what time of day your flying, its not accurate but you should be there no later than 2 hours before your flight.
2 :
International flight, three hours.
3 :
Since you are flying internationally, you should arrive at the airport 3 hours before your scheduled departure time. This will allow you to have enough time checking in, going through security, and finding your gate. Remember, on international flights, you must be at the gate 45-60 mins before the departure time. Enjoy your trip!

Cheap flights from Ft Lauderdale Florida (FLL) to San Jose Costa Rica (SJO)

Cheap flights from Ft Lauderdale Florida (FLL) to San Jose Costa Rica (SJO) ?
So I was looking up tickets for a vacation to Costa Rica in the mid December. From the 13th till the 21st. I've been doing research and the cheapest I can find at the moment is $340. Ouch! Anyone know of anywhere that I could find something less? Thanks in advance. I've already looked at Expedia, Kayak, and Orbitz.. anything other then those sites I should know about? I will actually be flying out of Miami because I've discovered its on average about $20 cheaper.

honestly that seems like a pretty good deal....considering the time of year you plan on going. honestly i cant see you getting a much cheaper flight then that. your going around christmas break time....the longer you wait...the more the prices will sky rocket.
2 :
I agree with Curious (the above answer), that sounds like a great deal, providing they are round-trip tickets ;-)
3 :
$340?? That is extremely cheap for a flight to Costa Rica, especially in December. Whenever I go, I pay more than $900, sometimes I'm lucky and I can get it for &600's...and that's all the way from the west coast to Costa Rica...Don't be so cheapo-depo!
4 :
You have got to be serious! Ouch for $340 in the middle of the tourist high season? Many people, as someone commented, will be paying $500 and upwards to travel to Costa Rica during the tourist high season. Pay the 340 and laugh all the way to Costa Rica. If you need any other information about Costa Rica, try the TicosLand.com website.

Spirit Arilines had some very cheap fairs, not sure if they are still flying here. Lacsa (TACA) is the next cheapest, however it all depends if it´s high or low season you are traveling. Lic.Gregory Kearney Lawson. http://attorneykearney.com

Thats a great price for the time of year you'll be flying. Keep in mind all those "great" prices we were all getting a few years ago don't exist anymore with the cost of gas and everything. The first time I went to CR I paid $148 before taxes - and this was 4 years ago. Now I can't ever find a flight for less than $400, unless I want multiple stops and 12 hour layovers. The chance of you finding better are slim.

Greatly depends on how often they have connecting flights. Put your trip into your airline's website and see. With a trip like Texas to Costa Rica, you'd have to find an airline that even goes there. You may fly to another city to get to Costa Rica in the first place. Plus there may be only 1 flight per day there. So if you got there in the morning and the only flight was at night, you'd have to add all day into your travel.
2 :
for correct information look at flight departure and arrival times listed on air line schedules
3 :
id say around 3 hours, maybe little less, little more

Do you have to check in again if transfering from a domestic to international flight

Do you have to check in again if transfering from a domestic to international flight?
I am flying from Seattle to Newark to San Jose, Costa Rica. I was wondering what I must do in the Newark airport in order to get to my international flight? Will I have to check in again?
Air Travel - 3 Answers

1 :
It depends. If both your flights are on the same airline, partner airline or airlines that have an inter-airline agreement you should be able to receive both boarding passes and check your luggage all the way through to Costa Rica when you first check-in in Seattle. Since you didn't say what airlines you're flying with, who knows?
2 :
Continental, huh? You should get both boarding passes in Seattle. Just get off the plane in Newark and find your connecting gate
3 :
Gerald J has it right. When you get to the airport in Seattle ask at check in whether your bags will go straight through to Costa Rica. The check in person will know by the codes on the baggage labels.

I usually set a flight finder on travelocity. You can enter your criteria and price and they will email you when there is a flight match.
3 :
Kayak.com or maybe dohop.com
4 :
I live on the east coast and I usually fly into San Jose on Southwest. If I time it right, I can do it sometimes for as low as $88 each way booking directly from Southwest. I don't know where you are coming from, but I glanced at a couple of the airports I usually come from and they still have some of the cheap fares in the $100 range left for those dates. But prices change rapidly based on demand. If the deals aren't so great into San Jose, try going into San Francisco or Oakland; they're not too far away and depending on how full flights are they can sometimes be cheaper.
5 :
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Can someone help me find a cheap flight to California

Can someone help me find a cheap flight to California?
I got a job at a summer camp this year and I need to find a round trip flight from Cleveland Ohio or anywhere close to that to San Jose airport. I cant seem to find anything under than 350. Am I looking in the wrong places or is that a normal price. Best answer to anyone who can find anything cheap. Dates are June 12, 2010 and august 12, 2010

Did you try Cleveland to SFO or OAK?
2 :
I am searching Priceline.com for one adult on your travel dates to San Fransisco. The cheapest I found with taxes was $450, so you will want to fly into another airport. From Cleveland to San Jose, the cheapest I found with taxes was $380 on Continental. From Cleveland to Oakland (near SJC), was $490. On Southwest Airlines from Cleveland to San Jose via Chicago, the cheapest I found with taxes was $411. On SWA to Oakland, the price with taxes is $370. With SWA to San Fransisco, the price is $411. Priceline.com has a "name your own price" option, so you could try putting in $280, and see if they accept that! Good luck!

You probably won't fnd anything cheaper then that!
4 :
I got US $ 380 for a return ticket Cleveland - San Jose on June 12, return on August 12 at Travelocity. If you may return on August 11 or 13, price goes down to $ 330, all charges included. Boarding pass not printed. No email printout. How to get a boarding pass at airport

Boarding pass not printed. No email printout. How to get a boarding pass at airport ?
Here is my detailed Question:--- My friend is arriving in JFK airport (NY) from an international flight. Then, he has to take a domestic flight from NY to San Jose, California. I'll be booking online for his domestic air-ticket from San Jose. The problem is... he will not have a printed boarding pass, nor a printed e-ticket. How can he proceed to the gate ? Where can he print the boarding pass (is it needed? )? Pls kindly answer. Any help appreciated.

Since he's coming in on an international flight, he'll have to go through customs when he gets to JFK. Depending upon the airline, he may or may not have to go back through security for the flight to San Jose. If he doesn't have to go through security again, then he can just go right to the gate, and they can print a boarding pass for him. If he does have to go through security again, he will need a boarding pass. He'll have to go to his airlines ticket counter and either ask an agent to print a boarding pass, or use one of the self-check-in kiosks. Either way will work. However, as long as he isn't leaving from wherever he is internationally, just tell him his confirmation number, and he should be able to print out a boarding pass from the airline's website before he leaves for the US. Hope this helps!

Hotel Playa Bejuco is down the street from a beach. Its a little rough (riptides) but is beautiful. About an hour drive away is Manuel Antonio National Park (also hotels around there). This national park was beautiful. There was about an hour walk through the forest (we saw sloths, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, sleeping bats and iguanas) before you get to a wonderful calm beach. White sand and the water was much warmer than expected. Make sure to bring sunscreen though, the sun burns in a jiff. I would suggest for the a hotel near Manuel Antonio National Park for sure. If you check out a volcano, I would definately go to see the Arenal Volcano. If you go at night, you can actually see the volcano erupting and lava flowing down the sides. It was a sight no one would forget!
2 :
The question is two part. First should be do you need a hotel for the night in San Jose? This will depend on what time you arrive. The nearest coastal town, Jaco, is an hour drive from San Jose. By the time you get your luggage, go through immigration, etc, you might be too late to go anywhere. So first let me recommend a hotel in San Jose but another issue is whether you plan to rent a car or not. A few good hotels near the airport but not under the flight path are the Adventure Inn, (budget around $60), the Ramada Plaza Herradura (around $95 with tax) or the Hotel Martino ($95 including tax but you'll want a car or will need to arrange a driver for the next day). The best place to book is on Expedia. The least expensive rental car company is www.Vamos4x4.com but any of the majors from expedia will work. The advantage of Vamos is they don't whack you with the tax and insurance like the majors do. Now for the coast. The two towns most visited in the central Pacific region are Jaco and Manuel Antonio (actually it is Quepos but the nice part of Quepos is referred to as Manual Antonio, the name of the national park that sits there). Jaco is a surf town but a number of developers have recently built high rises there and are trying to change the area to a more upscale tourist market. The Sonesta, Daystar and a few others have built high rise hotels there, one of the few areas along the coast were Costa Rican law has allowed development within 50 meters of the beach. Unfortunately many of the high rise projects were stopped short of completion when the real estate downturn from the US hit this local market. The area had been overbuilt with supply and inadequate demand. Check Expedia if you want to stay in Jaco but it would not be my first choice. It is easy to get to however at about an hour from San Jose. You can get a taxi at the airport to take you there for around $50-$75 depending on your negotiating skills. The surfer undertone still reigns in Jaco and with it came both drugs and prostitution, the later being legal in Costa Rica. The result has left Jaco in a kind of limbo between a sustainable tourist market and a haven for back packing surfers and riff-raff. Kristina and I don't recommend Jaco as a spot to visit but is an interesting place to drive through. Don't leave luggage or valuables in sight in an unattended car in Jaco. Being the beach town closest to San Jose attracts some elements looking for opportunity to take stuff from unsuspecting tourists. We don't ever leave luggage or valuables in our unattended car anywhere in Costa Rica, nor would I in many parts of the US. The town next to Jaco (to the north and closer to San Jose) is called Playa Herradura and home to the Marriott Los Suenos resort. As one of the most successful Marriott projects ever built, the resort features an 18 hole golf course and full service marina. It is quite expensive however and once inside the gates you'd think you were in Miami instead of Costa Rica. It makes up in amenities what it lacks in Costa Rican charm or experience and many an upscale tourist raves about it. It is a good place to find the typically "ugly American" and although the staff will greet you with a smile, they are often treated as servants and there is an undertone of resentment that is well founded. Between Jaco and Quepos are some small towns, good for surfers but not much to do unless you have a car and not many restaurants, parks, etc. These towns include Playa Bejuca, Esterillos and Parrita. Parrita is probably the lowest choice for a tourist. The other two are sleepy towns without much going on. Manuel Antonio on the other hand is a laid back tourist town. It is about a bit over a 2 hour drive from San Jose now that the new Caldera toll road has opened. It has the most visited national park in the country along with a soon to be completed marina. Quepos is the sport fishing capital of Costa Rica and the fishing is great. The town is definitely a tourist town, a great place to visit, lots of activities, resaturants, etc The national park is a great destination and we typically see more animals there in a short visit than anywhere else in the country. We spend two days there on our ten day tour for good reason. Although hotels are pricier there, the town has nice hotels, plenty of good restaurants and a laid back feeling that is soon to go away (the Wyndhan hotel chain is now building a 200 unit project that candidly doesn't belong there. Up until recently the town was known for upscale boutique hotels with kind of a bohemian flair. We recommend the http://www.costaverde.com/hotel and specifically the units facing the ocean in their Costa Verde II building. The units are huge with commanding ocean views, complete with kitchenettes. These units do lack AC however but they typically get a nice ocean breeze and each room has a number of ceiling fans. How do I insulate my home to reduce cold and flight noise

How do I insulate my home to reduce cold and flight noise ?
My home is getting very cold this winter, easily going down to 50 degrees. I also hear flight noise though my home is not in the flight path. In general, noise insulation is poor in my home. I want to know what I need to do to diagnose the problem and solve it. If you have a recommendation for any good local business in san jose to solve these issues, that will be great too.

I've heard of window plugs. You should check them out: http://store.yahoosoundproofing.com/soundproofing/winsoun.html
2 :
Often the solution to both noise and heat escaping from your house is to add double paned windows to your house. This is often very expensive, unfortunately, but you can call a windows specialist from the Yellow Pages in your area who can come and give you an estimate. If windows are old, rattly, and don't fit very well in the frames, it's likely cold and noise are getting in and it's time to replace your windows. A cheaper, but less attractive alternative, is to get heavyweight clear plastic and line your windows with in in the wintertime. This is a lot less expensive, but it reduces the light that comes into your house and isn't as attractive. My parents did this when I was growing up, and it cut down the electric bill a lot. You can get this at Home Depot or other hareware/home supply stores. You can also insulate the attics and walls of your home as well. This is also expensive because you often have to get into the walls of your house to do it, but you will often make up the difference in electric bills over the life of your house. There's some good information about insulation in the link below.

Irrational fear after 9/11

Irrational fear after 9/11?
I need some stories about things that were blown completely out of proportion due to the irrational fears following 9/11. They should be stories that I can find in the news. I already have the story about the mosque for example. Also, I found this- "The passengers boarding the Virgin Atlantic Airways flight from London to Los Angeles were wary, but everyone began to relax after takeoff. In midflight, over Canada, an attendant noticed a suspicious object behind a seat. Immediately, the cabin erupted in panic. The plane made an emergency landing in Edmonton, Canada, the passengers were evacuated, and a bomb squad was dispatched. The suspicious item? A cellphone." And this- "A man on a flight to San Jose, California, opens an envelope and a powdery substance spills out. A fellow passenger alerts the flight attendant, reporting that he had dispersed the powder into the ventilation system. Once the plane lands, it is held on the tarmac for three hours and the FBI is called to investigate. The "powdery substance" was confetti enclosed in a greeting card." But I can't find the actual news stories that they are tied to. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :) Thanks so much!

Travel time from Menlo Park to San Jose / San Fran Airport

Travel time from Menlo Park to San Jose / San Fran Airport?
I am trying to decide whether I should take a morning flight (leaving at around 8.30am) from SJC or SFO. The flight will be a domestic one and I will have checked-in online ahead of time and have no ckeck-in bags. Both routes entail driving along the 101, which is notorious. My friend will drive me and we can take the carpool lane. How long will it take to get to each of these airports? What about taking public transportation?

Leaving from Menlo Park at 8:30am by car it typically takes about 30 min to reach San Jose airport and about 40 min to reach SFO. I don't know about public transportation to San Jose, but I know that CalTrain runs to SFO.

Give yourself an hour at that time of day, morning commute traffic toward the city can be unpredictable espescially if the weather is bad.

Immigration and customs into USA

Immigration and customs into USA?
I am currently in costa rica and will be turning to the USA where I am a citizen. My flight leaves San Jose,cr and then arrives into ft. Lauderdale,fl and I am supposed to continue to chicago. When I arrive back into USA in ft lauderdale will I have to retrieve my checked luggage and then recheck in? I ask because I would like to stay in ft laudedale for a few days and don't want my luggage to continue with me. Is this possible? But will I have a chance to retrieve my bags once I enter back into the us? And then leave the terminal

No. Your ticket and luggage are for Chicago. You can't stop off for a visit because your air ticket cannot be changed.
2 :
Yes. Ft Lauderdale is your port of entry. You will need to clear both US Customs and US Immigration there. That means you will claim your baggage and take it through customs. What you do with it after clearing customs is up to you.

You will not have to pay for the boaring pass as you have already paid for the ticket. You go to the check in with the e-ticket and the swap it for the boarding pass with the details on it. They will see you have a connecting flight and give you the boarding pass for the connection flight too - do not worry! They will also make sure the bags are marked with the final airport, so you will not have to move them from one plane to the other.
2 :
yep, you should get everything at checkin, and check your bags all the way through, at SJC, so keep your passport handy!

Do i have to be a Citizen at South korea to live there since i'm a foreigner

Do i have to be a Citizen at South korea to live there since i'm a foreigner?
In the future i want to live in Seoul, south korea. Then today, i came across a comment from people talking about being citizens this and that. So i became curious and wondered if i have to become a citizen to live there? & how long is a flight to korea from San jose?

1 :
No, but you must apply for the appropriate visa to live there, through the Korean embassy. In most countries, you must apply for a residency visa and live there at least 5 years before you are allowed to apply for citizenship. You can get all info from the Korean embassy.
2 :
Unfortunately you cannot just live there, you must be there for a "purpose". You can visit there visa free for up to 90 days (If you hold a U.S. passport), but any longer, such as "living" there would require a long-term visa such as a work visa or a student visa. If you are currently employed by a multinational, see if the possibly have an office in Korea and any open positions, or maybe teach English. English is the biggest craze in Korea right now, and as much as parents want their children to learn Korean, schools, academies, and tutoring centers are looking to hire foreign help. Also maybe do a job search, see if you can work in Korea full-time, renewing your visa each time it expires. Obtaining Korean citizenship through the means of being a permanent resident, takes many years, requires many preconditions, is lengthy and you must go through the Korean legal system (Which is very complicated), and citizenship tests are very difficult. The only other way to obtain Korean citizenship (Well the simplest way) would be to marry a Korean citizen, and taking on their citizenship. I hope that helped, and hopefully you will get to Korea someday soon. Seoul is an amazing city, and has so much too offer (Plus it's very safe). ** As far as a flight from San Jose to Seoul-Incheon, it would take anywhere between 15-20 hours depending on where your connecting flights are. There are no direct flights from San Jose to Korea, so you most likely would have to transfer planes in Los Angeles with a 2-3 hour layover before departing straight for Seoul. **
3 :
The flight from LAX to Seoul is about 9-11hours. it's very exhausting for me. and you can't be a korean citizen unless your parents are citizens of korea but you don't necessarily have to be a korean citizen to live in korea. hope that helps:)

What's a nice hotel near the San Jose, Costa Rica airport

What's a nice hotel near the San Jose, Costa Rica airport?
Need a hotel for one night near the San Jose, CR airport. I arrive on a regional flight at 11AM and depart the next day for the US at 6AM. I would like somewhere pleasant w/ a pool that's near the airport. I would prefer NOT to stay at an American chain (i.e. NOT the Hampton Inn). Preferably around $100 per night would be a good budget. Thanks. Thanks. I should stay near the airport because my flight to the US is at 6AM the next day. Know any good spots near the airport? Or is Hampton Inn the only option? Thanks. I think I'll pass Adventure Inn only because it doesn't look like it has a good pool scene. I'm going to spend almost the whole day in San Jose, so I'd like a place w/ a decent pool. Any more suggestions?

BRAVO! You can't believe how happy it makes me to hear a comment from a like-minded traveler. I just DETEST lame chain places when I can stay in a colorful locally operated property. Unfortunately for you, the Hampton Inn happens to be freakin' smack dab next to the San Jose airport, which is why so many Americans love the heck out of it. I always just bite the bullet and do the 20 minute taxi ride each way into downtown San Jose where I stay in one of the B&B style inns in Barrio Amon for half the price and twice the quality. There's a lot of good places there: the Don Carlos is excellent, the Brittania very upscale, the Hotel Santo Tomas unassuming but friendly, the Fleur de Lys cosmopolitan with a heavy european clientele. Just a few ideas...

Stay at the Hampton. I had the same opinion and took the 20 min ride into San Jose. I got robbed the in less than one hour. Stay out of San Jose.

Your cousin definitely will NOT be flying on Lufthansa as they do not fly domestically in the U.S. As for the times, the ONLY thing I can think of that would have those departure and arrival times is changing planes somewhere with a HUGE layover.
2 :
Probably domestic airline, definiteley not lufthansa because that is a totally different ethnic airline for the trip
3 :
okay, this is really simple mathematics and a whole llot of just plain common sense. Los Angeles observes Pacific Daylight Savings Time and New York obviously observes Eastern Daylight Savings Time. If it's a nonstop flight from JFK, the flight time is 6 hours. So if his original flight leaves at 7:00 a.m. and the flight time is 6 hours (0700 hr. + 0600 hr.) = 1300 hrs. These times are written using the 24 hours clock system which all airline and military personnels use. Therefore, his plane lands at 1300 hrs. New York Time which is 1:00 p.m. Los Angeles observes Pacific Time, they are 3 hours behind. That why the local time will be 10:00 a.m.

Is this flight connection time tight

Is this flight connection time tight?
My flight arrives at Miami from San Jose (Costa Rica) at 4:25, and I'm leaving to Madrid at 6:10. Will I have time to get the flight to Madrid? Also, I am a US citizen, so it won't take so long in security. Also, the flight from San Jose arrives at the same terminal than the one to Madrid departures.

Yes, providing your bags are checked through to your connecting flight so you don't need to collect them.
2 :
Just barely enough time, you need to expect at least an hour to get through customs and immigration and then security checkpoint before you can get into the terminal. If your checking bags, realize you will have to get your bags before going through customs and immigration, once past, there weill be a drop off section for your bags to get on your next flight.
3 :
I think it will depend on how many other international flights arrive in Miami around that time. Other people are probably going to be making that same connection so I would not be surprised if the airlines have planned for this so I think you will have enough time but you don't want to waste a lot of time as you will have to pick-up your bags in Miami and then re-check them to Madrid.

It depends on the airport you are flying into and the time. Also, how busy Denver is. I live in NYC and flew back on a direct flight from Seattle a month ago and our flight was delayed by an hour because of plane issues in Seattle - not New York. In general JFK, LGA, and Newark have very heavy flight volume - it's not unheard of that your captain will say "we'll be approaching New York in a few minutes" and then you may circle over the city once or twice before landing - it's just due to the high traffic coming in. Some flights home I've circled for quite awhile, other times we've landed fairly fast. One tip that doesn't answer your question, but will help you: if you plan to take a taxi from any of the area's airports - DO NOT accept rides from people that are standing around the baggage claim. EWR, JFK, and LGA all have official taxi stands right outside, wait at one of those. If the line is long there is usually another taxi stand, a short walk away (that no one else will be at, strangely). Enjoy your trip.

They are always over booked. Get there early.

Guatemala City, Guatemala to San Jose, Guatemala

Guatemala City, Guatemala to San Jose, Guatemala?
My husband has to travel from San Diego to Guatemala to meet his navy ship after our son is born. I can find a flight to Guatemala City. His final destination needs to be San Jose, Guatemala. How would he get there? Are there any flights or would he take a bus? How far is it? Who would we work with to make this happen?

ITS NOT THAT FAR FROM THE CAPITAL! I WOULD SUGGEST TO ARRIVE AT THE AIRPORT CALLED LA AURORA (THATS THERE MAIN AIRPORT) N TAKE A BUS FROM THERE ITS PROBABLY A COUPLE OF HOURS BUT NOTHING BIG. LOOK ONLINE TO FOR TRANSPORTATION LIKE BUSSES PLAIN ETC. BEST THING TO DO IS WHEN HE GETS THERE TO ASK THEY WOULD FOR SURE TELL HIM THE BEST WAY!!! HOPE THIS HELPS!!
2 :
I assume you are talking about Puerto San Jose since it is a navy ship he is meeting. There are many San Jose de (whatever) in Guatemala. The coast is probably only a couple of hours by land from Guatemala city. You could charter a flight to the Puerto San Jose airport, but there are no commercial flights. I would guess the cost would be prohibitive. http://www.tag.com.gt/ingles/charters.htm There are buses, but if you are not familiar with Guatemala and don't want an experience I don't really recommend trying that. I think the best idea would be to charter a taxi. I would guess that for $100 you could easily get somebody to drive him to the coast. Maybe the best idea is to stay in a nice hotel. Marriott or Holiday Inn, etc. and have them arrange with one of their approved drivers. It will probably be more expensive than negiotiating on the street, but much safer.
3 :
Take the bus or rent a car, the road is pretty new and pretty nice.
4 :
congrats on your baby go to the capital of guatemala airport which is la aora then either take a bus or taxi. Or he could rent his own car. Make sure its a luxury bus a good brand because some buses just rob people you never know

Do Southwest Airlines fares usually increase as you get closer to your travel date

Do Southwest Airlines fares usually increase as you get closer to your travel date?
I'm trying to book at flight from Chicago to San Jose the first weekend of October. Should I book now or wait for fares to drop? Do they even drop as the date of travel approaches?
Air Travel - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Fares ALWAYS increase the closer to the date you get.
2 :
They can increase so lock in your tickets soon.
3 :
Yes. They go up because the airlines figure that if you really want to travel on those dates, you will be willing to pay.
4 :
Yes. Book now. The tickets almost always increase in price as the travel date comes closer. If the fare drops, you can call Southwest and they will refund you the difference. Have a great trip!
5 :
Yes they do.
6 :
Every airline's fares increase the closer you get to the date of travel. Book now.
7 :
It's called and advance purchase..Some airlines have some that are even 60 days out..It's an incentive for the passengers to book further in advance, and the airlines make more money. Also, if you end up having to change, they make more money. Best idea is to book now and save any hassle closer to the date.
8 :
In general ticket prices tend to increase as you get closer to the date of departure. I suggest you buy at least 14 days in advance of the day you fly out otherwise the ticket prices will most likely jump up a bit.
9 :
Southwest's fares almost always go up the closer you get to your departure date. It's easy enough to check by comparing prices for dates in October with prices just a few days or a week out on their website. Southwest shows fares in early October from Chicago to SJ for $149 each way, fares for the next week or so are $370 each way. It's not even close, buy soon for the best price: http://www.southwest.com/

How does a 14 year old fly across country

How does a 14 year old fly across country?
So here's my dilemma. I currently live in Allentown, PA and I want to travel across the country to San Jose CA. I'm wondering the cheapest way to do this. I need a hotel room for a few days at San Jose so I'm considering buying a package deal. I'm meeting one of my friends (an adult) when the plane stops in Chicago and then we'll both take the plane to CA. So my question is...should I buy a package deal with my flight (to San Jose and back to Allentown) or should I ask my friend to buy a package deal with his flight (to San Jose and back to Chicago)? Which way is cheaper?

The cheapest way is you leave Pa. at night on a bus and sleep and arrive in Chicago in the morning and your friend makes the ticket preparations for the two of you the rest of the way. Having an adult make the reservations removes alot of possible issues for you flying alone and only 14. The bus trip will be similar to me going from Charlotte to Philly, about 600 miles. I'd leave Charlotte at 7pm and arrive 8am and sleep during the trip. Under $60 one way. Your friend can search the internet for low discount fares round trip Chicago to Ca. Or call a travel agent. Here is some info about the rules being different: Each airline has its own set of rules. In general, airlines promise to escort unaccompanied minors onto their flights and release them to the properly designated person upon arrival. Some carriers give children pouches where they can keep their IDs and itineraries. Others have designated areas in airports, with books, games and snacks, where children can wait for connecting flights under airline supervision. This is as cheap as I can find round trip Chicago to San Jose: $311 Frontier Airlines and USAir with a stop in Denver. $311 [Total Incl. fees excl. taxes ] Take off $15 Instantly - click here ¹ Frontier Airlines Flight 171 318 More Information Chicago Midway (MDW) Denver (DEN) 06:00am -25Mar, Thu 07:37am -25Mar, Thu Nonstop Coach 2hr 37min Frontier Airlines Flight 1069 E90 More Information Denver (DEN) San Jose (SJC) 08:30am -25Mar, Thu 10:19am -25Mar, Thu Nonstop Coach 2hr 49min Flight Duration : 5hr 26min Layover Time : 0hr 53min Total Trip Time: 6hr 19min US Airways Flight 6316 752 More Information San Jose (SJC) Denver (DEN) 02:20pm -31Mar, Wed 05:54pm -31Mar, Wed Nonstop Coach 2hr 34min Operated by United Airlines Frontier Airlines Flight 541 318 More Information Denver (DEN) Chicago Midway (MDW) 07:05pm -31Mar, Wed 10:23pm -31Mar, Wed Nonstop Coach 2hr 18min Flight Duration : 4hr 52min Layover Time : 1hr 11min Total Trip Time: 6hr 03min let me know if you want more info. I think splitting a hotel cost when you get there might be cheaper than some package. The package might not have a hotel near where you want to go, or maybe you plan a rental car. You might luck into a deal on a plane ticket where an accompanying child (under 17) flies cheap or free with an adult so let your adult friend find the deals.

Stuck in San Jose, Costa Rica...What do we do

Stuck in San Jose, Costa Rica...What do we do?
My boyfriend and I will be traveling to costa rica in a few months. We will fly into San Jose then go to the Province of Puntarenas. The only problem is that our flight lands at 9am but we can't check into our hotel until 4pm. Since we will have our luggage we won't be able to really explore when we arrive. What our some things to do on the way to the Central Pacific Coast that will kill a lot of time?

It might take you longer to get from San Jose to Pacific Coast than you think. First time I went there I trusted my companion. She said it should take about an hour or hour and a half. It was more like about 6 or 7 hours and the pot holes in the road looked like vol-canoe craters which is why they had to drive slowly.
2 :
In hotels like the Doubletree Hilton in Puntarenas and Barcelo Tambor Beach, also in Puntarenas, they also tell you that check in is at 4 pm. However, that doesn't mean that you can't go there, leave your stuff with the bellhop and enjoy the facilities while you are waiting for your room. If I were you, I would call the hotel and find out whether they have a safe place where you can store your luggage if you arrive a little earlier. If not, I suggest that you never lose sight of your luggage anywhere around the airport or in San Jose. There are many thieves looking to prey upon unsuspecting tourists who are too trusting. If you need more information about Costa Rica, try the TicosLand.com website.
3 :
Head towards your hotel, enjoy the ride, look around, etc. When you get to the hotel attempt to check in. More than likely you will be able to. If not, the hotel will likely hold your bags so that you can check out the local surroundings. NOTE: If you are renting a car be aware that similar to the 'Bump & Run' technique used in the U.S. where a planned low speed accident is designed to get the victim driver out of their vehicle for a strong-arm/armed car theft … tire spiking is the method of choice used by criminals worldwide when targeting tourist driven rental cars loaded with suitcases full of nice clothes and expensive electronics. Be sure your car rental company briefs you on safety measures just to make sure your visit to this wonderful country is without a major negative incident.
4 :
On you way to Puntarenas you have to go through San Mateo, On the main road, there is a place called PANACA. http://www.panacacostarica.com/index.php Its like a big farm, you can actually play with the animals they have. It will take most of your day time. For me, I would rather get to the beach and get hammered watching the sunset. You´ll be getting out of the airport like at 9:30 am / 10 a.m. Depending on were your going the trip is going to take at least 3 hours, if you stop for food 4. Lets say you get there at 2 p.m., 2 hours of drinks at the beach isn´t a bad idea. Might do it this weekend....

Dollar bill 'raffle' on delayed airplane flights: anyone played it

Dollar bill 'raffle' on delayed airplane flights: anyone played it?
I asked this here almost a year ago, but no one had heard of this "game". So I'll try again! :) A few years ago, I was on an American Airlines flight from San Jose to Las Vegas, and we had to wait "on the tarmac" about an hour before we could take off. To help pass the time, the flight attendants said we were going to play a game. Everyone who wished to participate took out a $1 bill. We each wrote our seat number on our bill. An attendant collected all the bills in a bag, then had a child pull one bill from the bag. The person whose seat number was written on that bill won ALL the bills! :) Ever since, I've asked quite a few people (who fly more often than I do) about this dollar bill "raffle", but NO one has ever played this on a delayed flight, or any flight for that matter! I wonder if it's unique to American Airlines, or perhaps it's unique to flights going to Vegas? Anyhoo, I'm curious if anyone here on Yahoo has heard of this game, and/or played it? Sylverbutterfli -- I know it's not a game of skill, which is why I called it a "raffle". And I *do* like your idea of calling it a "lottery". But please, let's not mince words. :) I called it a "game" just as a generic term. Splitting hairs regarding my word choice is not exactly a helpful answer to my question. (I'm not angry, hence my use of the smiley above. I'm just amused at your non-answer).

ive never heard of it but it doesnt sound like much of a game. there is no skill invovled and theres no way to guarantee your chances of winning. its a lottery. edit: im amazing at the non-answer! (tks for noticing:D) but to answering your question DIRECTLY: no, ive never herd of it, or played it, or ever heard anyone else mention it. ive been flying quite a lot recently and i usually have conversation with the people around me, but none of them have ever mentioned. but ive also not been in a big delay. i think once we were like 6th for takeoff, but we were still gone in less than 15 minutes. and p.s. i dont like games of chance cuz im pretty damn skillful, in the right situation, lmao!
2 :
Never heard of it, sorry, but it sounds like an isolated incident. A good idea for a Vegas flight. Might be taken as kind of silly on other flights.

Costa Rica Travel Help

Costa Rica Travel Help?
We will be traveling to Costa Rica late December to January this year and still need to book our hotels. We were wondering is it better to take a flight from San Jose to Liberia, Costa Rica to stay at the JW Marriott in Guanacaste for probably five days. We also would like to go to Arenal Volcano area for 4 days. We need some suggestions for hotels there as well. Any help with travel tips or hotels you enjoyed would be greatly appreciated! :) Do you know is there an airport in Tamarindo that we can fly into since it would be closer for JW Marriott.

If you are going to stay at the JW you should fly into Liberia, otherwise you are looking at a 5 hour car ride to get to your hotel from San Jose. Arenal has several great hotels. Tabacon Resort is the most popular, but I think a little over hyped. Check out Arenal Springs www.arenalspringshotel.com You might want to think again about your itinerary. Even if you fly to Liberia, you are going to spend 45 minutes driving to JW, then 3+ hours driving to Arenal, then 3+hours driving back to the airport. This could be an alternative including Manuel Antonio as your beach destination instead of JW. Fly to San Jose, then fly with Nature Air to from San Jose to Arenal (30 minutes), then fly from Arenal to Quepos (40 minutes) to enjoy Manuel Antonio (Quepos is 5 minutes from Manuel Antonio). Then fly back to San Jose (20 minutes). Manuel Antonio is a much nicer destination then Guanacaste, with lush jungle, tons of wildlife and better restaurants. And even though Manuel Antoni does not have a JW it comes pretty close with Arenas del Mar (www.arenasdelmar.com) I only give you the flying option because I have seen lots of tourists vacation ruined in CR because of the endless driving. Flying is really the way to go in CR. Here are some more links: www.skytrek.com www.spauno.com www.flysansa.com

Could someone give us recommendations of Costa Rican destinations within a few hours of San Jose

Could someone give us recommendations of Costa Rican destinations within a few hours of San Jose?
Our last night in Costa Rica we would like to stay closer to San Jose in order to catch our flight but don't want to stay in the city. Is Playa Hermosa within a few hours' drive? We don't think Jaco is for us (too touristy) but welcome any other recommendations that are safe and picturesque. We will be traveling back from the Nicoya peninsula, FYI. I'm sorry, I should have mentioned a couple of things: I have been to Costa Rica before and absolutely love it. I also am returning to Monteverde (that will be the first 1/2 of our trip). I was looking for something 2 hours max from the airport for our last night as we don't want to have to rush back that morning. I think Playa Hermosa seems to be the best bet- thanks for the help!

playa hermosa is like an hour and 45 mins. non-stop. its a nice place and great waves. i quite go there for the waves and the atv races with friends. go for it dude
2 :
sure playa hermosa would work. also you can try this place: http://www.pozoazul.com/how_to_get_there.html, only 90 min. from San Jose. it has rafting, horseback riding, biking, hiking, canopy tours, repelling. its cool! have fun, and don't miss ur flight! also, you can just go to Puntarenas city. its nice there. when u come back to the city, stop at this place that is a milk factory called CoopeLeche, for an awesome chocolate milkshake!!! have fun. don't stop at this place that says "english books" "hamburgers" and"milkshakes" cus it sucks and the people talk forever.. have fun!!
3 :
The entire nation is within a few hours of San Jose. ;-) You can catch a bus and be anywhere within about 4 hours. Jaco actually has its own charm, and I went there about 4 times while I was in the country. By US standards, even that beach isn't crowded. For convenience of getting there and back for your flight, you really can't beat it. Coming back from Nicoya, you might consider swinging through Monteverde. It's a lot more remote, so its harder to get to - definitely ask your concierge for advice - but if you haven't seen it, you must before you leave the country. If you're not dead set against staying in the city, I would look into spending your last night in the western suburbs of the city. Look into the San Pedro area or Los Yoses - it's an upscale neighborhood with various embassies and the University, and is really a very pretty area. You don't really get the full Costa Rican flavor if you don't spend any time in the cities of the Central Valley. I'd recommend Hotel Le Bergerac - it's where I put my parents up when they came to visit me, and it's just adorable. Beautiful room, courteous staff who speak flawless English.
4 :
well ive been to san jose many times and from my experience.....i would say that the hot springs at Volcan Arenal called Tabacon was the best. Theres also a water park in guanacaste thats excelent for the dry season (december-may) then theres SanIsidro thats south from there, that like Tijuana, Mexico. In Limon i think there is a Four Season hotel, and its a beutiful place with coral reef and conopy tours.

My favorite search site for airfares is www.sidestep.com, but also make sure to check out Southwest Airlines since they don't normally show up on the SideStep search. Southwest is generally my airline of choice for short flights along the West Coast, since they tend to be the least expensive.

for a bus service, look at Greyhound. for train your only choise is Amtrak
2 :
If you can't afford air fare, you can't afford Amtrak either. Greyhound bus southbound will do it. But, whatever the problem with mom and dad is, you getting on the bus to ANYWHERE IS A BAD IDEA. Give them another chance for a bit. If that doesn't help smooth the waters at home, you can still head out into the world. LA is a bad place to be heading to when first getting out in the world. Your chances for survival are pretty much nil. LA has always gobbled up young people heading out into the world for the first time. It is hard to make a go of it there without your parents help, at first. Like I say, give the folks another chance. At the least, you'll save the bus fare to spend it on something better than an 8 hour bus ride.................
3 :
well even if you took Greyhound or amtrak you will still need ID (it doesnt have to be a passport) but some govement ID (like a state ID card, (proballty even a school id with your Photo might be accpected)_ but we do wonder why your parent cant know (it gives the impression you are trying to run away and we will not be parties to that sorry

Traveling alone 14 on SW airlines and connecting flights

Traveling alone 14 on SW airlines and connecting flights.?
Hello, I will be leaving on Dec. 30 from Denver, CO to San Jose, CA. I will be on an early Southwest airlines flight leaving at 6:10 A.M I will be boarding a flight from Denver to Las Vegas,Nevada. I will arrive at 7 55 a.m then once I get off that aircraft I will go to another gate to board a non-stop flight from Vegas to San Jose. The flight leaves at 8 40. I'm a bit scared that I may miss my connection if we encounter any delays of 10 minutes or more. I need to make sure I make this flight to San Jose. Any tips on the layout of the vegas airport to make sure I can make the connecting flight if I encounter any delays in Denver. Also on the way back I will be departing January 3, 2010 at 7 20 pm from San Jose, CA to LAX but it's just a stop not switching flights then it will proceed to Denver and I will arrive in Denver at 12 10 A.M Jan. 3rd. I'm 14 years old therefore I'm not considered a minor on any southwest flights I'm considered an adult.

For Southwest Airline, they have the entire terminal to their own, that is your connecting flight should leave from the same terminal that you arrive in so it takes maximum 10 minutes from one end to the other. With 50 minutes, you should have 40 minutes left. Just in case the incoming flight arrives late so you miss your connecting flight to San Jose, you don't need to worry because it's the airline's fault, and even before the first flight touches the ground in Las Vegas, Southwest's computer would have booked you on the next flight to take you to your final destination. In case you miss your flight, go up to the Southwest counter and the staff can tell you when your next flight to San Jose would be. After you arrive, check the TV monitor for the gate no. of the San Jose flight, that is the counter you should go to whether late or not.
2 :
In Vegas all of the Southwest gates are near each other. I only had 30 minutes to change planes in Vegas once and I was worried because my first flight was delayed by 40 minutes and it was going to be the last flight of the night out of Vegas to San Jose. But they already had me in the computer and they held the plane in Vegas for me so that I could make the switch. Chances are there are other people on the plane who need to make the same transfer as you.
3 :
also remember that you should be at the airport 2 hours before the flight which means 4:00am in the morning how do/did you plan get to the airport?

You must be talking about a 'one way' ticket, because you are not going to get that route, as a round-trip for that price. Oklahoma City is an expensive market to fly out of. I suggest you drive to Dallas and fly out of DFW, where airfares are much more competitive.

According to Expedia.com, there are no non-stops. At best you would have to make a connection in Miami or Dallas.
2 :
Yes, both LAN and Delta have non-stop, and I'm sure other airlines do too.
3 :
TACA (http://www.taca.com) has nonstop service from LAX to SJO, running Tue-Fri only. There's also a daily flight that goes through San Salvador (very short layover). The return nonstop (SJO-LAX) operates Mon-Thur only. So a Fri-Wed trip could mean nonstop both ways.
4 :
Lacsa (Costa Rica Airline) which is run by Taca (go to their website as the one mentioned) has several flights schedule daily to LAX to San Jose, and vise-versa..
5 :
I've seen them, from LAX to San Jose.....very expensive..... Lineas Aereas Costarricenses (LACSA), which operates a daily non-stop flight from San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) to Los Angeles (LAX) regularly scheduled to depart at 6:15pm and arrive at 10:35pm. Usually an Airbus A319 is flown for this route. The average travel time from San Jose, Costa Rica to Los Angeles, CA is 6 hours and 20 minutes. If you don't book nonstop, be sure to go thru Houston....it's the best record Hub of all...enjoy :)
