Is it better to take a bus from san jose (costa rica) airport to quepos or to take a domestic flight

Is it better to take a bus from san jose (costa rica) airport to quepos or to take a domestic flight?
My friend recommended that when I got into the county that I fly from san jose airport to quepos. She said that the bus ride is grueling because there is a mountain in the way. However, taking the bus is obviously the more economic option of the two and I would like to conserve my money if it isnt to big of a hassle. Also, I am going during the raining season... will there be any issues with road closures or transportation in general?

I would fly. It's only $56 one-way on Sansa. You can fly directly from SJO (a smaller terminal building just outside the main terminal) to Quepos in about 35 minutes. There are 8 flights daily. (See schedule below). The bus ride sucks, to put it frankly. It's a winding road up then down the mountain. If you get stuck behind a slow truck up (and even down) the mountain, it can be a slow ride. The humidity sucks. I don't think many buses don't have A/C. The one we took did not, but I've heard others say they had A/C. I totally agree with "Orange". FLY!!! Its a short fun flight and you won't spend all that time on a poorly maintained road. But if you fly you'll miss stopping to see the crocodiles that live under the Tarcoles bridge !

sorry to disagree with the others but i like the bus....i see so much more.....and for me the ride over the mountain makes it that much better and the buses i think are fairly comfortable...

From where? New info added: Thanks for adding that you will depart from Miami. Check out Dutch airline Martinair which fly from Amsterdam to Miami to CR, and usually have the cheapest fares. The other suggestions for Booking Buddy is good, too, but Martinair usually do not show up in the online booking engines; you either have to book from their website or ring this airline directly. Link below:

www.bookingbuddy.com might be able to help you. it is good at comparing flights.
3 :
Orbits.com/CheapFlights.com/lowestfares.com/USAirways.com Those are a few, but honestly you'll just have to do some research online. Sometimes going to a travel agency is cheaper than going through an airline directly because they can give out discounts and might be able to hook up you up with a package deal. Check a few in your local area.

You transfer in Dallas (DFW) if you take American and in Houston (IAG) if you take Continental. US Airways goes through Phoenix. Shortest flight is 5 hrs, 55 minutes thru Dallas on American 2303 and 1225. Other flights range from 6:06 to 13:48. On average, 6 to 8 hours.

When I made the same exact flight a year ago they had meals for purchase. I would always recommend eating your own food ahead of time and bringing a snack for the terminal and for the flight. Eating your own food always reduces the risk of feeling sick during the flight. Enjoy the sunshine! I'm so jealous...

Call and ask. If it is a direct flight the answer may very well be 'yes.' Actually you'd be better advised to stop at a Subway on the way to the airport. They are sure to provide liquid in flight.

Usually it says on your ticket (e-ticket) if there is a meal or snack provided on a flight. However, it might be a good idea to prepare your own food or bring a snack. You might not like their food if such would be provided. It has happened to me several times and I was happy that I had my own snacks. Some airlines do offer meals for purchase, but the prices are rather high for what you get.

no. Jetblue does not serve meals. pack food. no liquids though.

Not unless you consider peanuts a meal! But, you should be comforted to know that per their new Bill of Rights: (check it out on www.jetblue.com) 1) If you are stuck on a grounded JetBlue plane for over 5 hours they will give you access to a bathroom and medical attention, if needed. 2) If you are delayed due to a "controllable irregularity" you may be eligible to receive a $25 voucher for future service. 3) If your flight is cancelled they will either refund your money or put you on another flight. (as opposed to their previous policy of kicking you in the groin) Have fun...
